== Faoliyati ==
1952-yil yanvarda Hefner 5 dollarga koʻtarilish rad etilganidan keyin ''Esquire'' uchun kopirayter sifatida ishini tark etdi. 1953-yilda u 600 dollar miqdorida kredit oldi va 45 investordan 8000 dollar yigʻdi (shu jumladan onasidan 1000 dollar – „u korxonaga ishongani uchun emas“, dedi u „oʻgʻliga ishongani uchun“.) dastlab ''Stag Party'' deb ataladigan ''Playboyni'' ishga tushirish. Birinchi soni 1953-yil dekabr oyida nashr etilgan va [[Marilyn Monroe|Merilin Monro]] taxallusi ostida 1949-yilgi yalangʻoch kalendar suratga olingan<ref>{{Veb manbasi |sarlavha=Marilyn Monroe Didn't Actually Pose for the First Issue of Playboy |url=https://www.biography.com/news/marilyn-monroe-playboy-first-issue-didnt-pose |muallif=Witter |ism=Brad |ish=Biography |til=en-us |qaralgan sana=2020-05-22 |arxivsana=February 19, 2020 |arxivurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20200219232306/https://www.biography.com/news/marilyn-monroe-playboy-first-issue-didnt-pose}}</ref>. Hefner Monro bilan hech qachon uchrashmagan, lekin u 1992-yilda Westwood Village Memorial Park qabristonida uning yonidagi kriptni 75 000 dollarga sotib olgan<ref name="NYT_20110203">{{Yangiliklar manbasi |last=Charles McGrath |date=February 3, 2011 |title=How Hef Got His Groove Back |work=The New York Times |url=https://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/06/magazine/06Hefner-t.html |url-status=live |access-date=February 24, 2017 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170125113341/http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/06/magazine/06Hefner-t.html |archive-date=January 25, 2017}}</ref>.

''Esquire'' jurnali 1955-yilda Charlz Bomontning 8ilmiy-fantastik hikoyasini rad etdi, shu sababli Hefner uni ''Playboy-da nashr etishga rozi boʻldi.'' Hikoya gomoseksualizm odatiy hol boʻlgan dunyoda toʻgʻridan-toʻgʻri erkaklar taʼqib qilinayotganini taʼkidladi. 1961-yilda Hefner Dik Gregorining Chikagodagi Herman Roberts shou-barida chiqishlarini tomosha qildi va u Gregorini Chikagodagi Playboy klubiga ishga yolladi. Gregori oʻz karerasining boshlanishini oʻsha kecha bilan bogʻladi<ref>{{Yangiliklar manbasi |date=August 22, 2017 |title=Column: Dick Gregory understood the political power of comedy |work=Chicago Tribune |url=http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/page/ct-perspec-page-dick-gregory-civil-rights-0823-story.html |url-status=live |access-date=September 27, 2017 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170928145911/http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/page/ct-perspec-page-dick-gregory-civil-rights-0823-story.html |archive-date=September 28, 2017}}</ref>.

Hefner oʻz jurnalida va telekoʻrsatuvlarida ''Playboy’s Pentxaus'' (1959–1960) va ''Playboy After Dark'' (1969–1970) ga mezbonlik qilgani haqida ''jozibali'' hayotga undadi<ref>{{Veb manbasi |url=https://www.biography.com/people/hugh-hefner-9333521 |sarlavha=Hugh Hefner |ish=Biography.com |qaralgan sana=November 7, 2017 |arxivsana=November 15, 2017 |arxivurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20171115200152/https://www.biography.com/people/hugh-hefner-9333521}}</ref>.

Hefner oʻzini ''jonli'' va shahar haqidagi odam sifatida qayta tikladi, bu turmush tarzini u oʻz jurnali va telekoʻrsatuvlarida targʻib qildi<ref>Acocella, Joan [https://web.archive.org/web/20100811192831/http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2006/03/20/060320crbo_books „The Girls Next Door“], ''The New Yorker'', March 20, 2006</ref>.
