Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 2002-yilda chiqarilgan jangari-sarguzasht janridagi videooʻyindir. Rockstar North kompaniyasi tomonidan ishlangan va Rockstar Games kompaniyasi tomonidan tarqatilgan. Ushbu oʻyin „Grand Theft Auto“ seriyasining toʻrtinchi asosiy oʻyini boʻlib, 2001-yildagi „Grand Theft Auto III“dan keyin chiqarilgan. Oʻyin voqealari 1986-yilda Miami va Miami Beach shaharlari asosida yaratilgan xayoliy Vice city shahrida sodir boʻladi. Yakka oʻyinchi rejimidagi syujet qamoqdan chiqqanidan soʻng muvaffaqiyatsiz narkotik moddalar kelishuviga aralashib qolgan mafiya aʼzosi Tommy Vercettining hokimiyat choʻqqisiga koʻtarilish jarayonini tasvirlaydi. Aybdorlarni qidirar ekan, Tommy asta-sekin shahardagi boshqa jinoiy tashkilotlardan hokimiyatni tortib olib, oʻzining jinoiy imperiyasini barpo etadi.

Oʻyin uchinchi shaxs nuqtai nazaridan oʻynaladi va ochiq dunyoda piyoda yoki transport vositasi yordamida harakatlanish mumkin. Ochiq dunyo dizayni oʻyinchiga ikki asosiy oroldan iborat Vice Cityni erkin kezish imkonini beradi. „Grand Theft Auto: Vice City“ oʻyini 1980-yillar Mayami shahri muhitini juda aniq aks ettirgan. Oʻyinda davr pop-madaniyati, musiqasi va uslubiga katta eʼtibor qaratilgan. Oʻyin syujeti Mayamidagi haqiqiy odamlar va voqealar, jumladan, kubaliklar, gaitiliklar va baykerlar guruhlari, 1980-yillardagi krek epidemiyasi (inglizcha: Crack epidemic), Mayamidagi mafiya narkobaronlari va glem-metal musiqasining hukmronligi kabi hodisalarga asoslangan. Shuningdek, oʻyinga oʻsha davr filmlari va televideniyesi, ayniqsa Scarface va Miami Vice katta taʼsir koʻrsatgan. Ishlab chiqish jarayonining asosiy qismi ilhomlanilgan manbalarga va vaqt davriga mos keladigan oʻyin dunyosini yaratishdan iborat edi. Ishlab chiquvchilar jamoasi dunyoni yaratish jarayonida Mayamida keng qamrovli tadqiqotlarni amalga oshirgan. "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" 2002-yil oktyabrida 2 uchun, 2003-yil mayida Windows uchun va 2003-yil noyabrida Xbox uchun chiqarilgan.

Chiqarilishi bilan „Vice City“ tanqidchilar tomonidan yuqori baholanadi. Ayniqsa uning musiqasi, oʻyin jarayoni, syujeti va ochiq dunyo dizayni maqtovga sazovor boʻladi. Biroq, oʻyin zoʻravonlik va irqiy guruhlarning tasvirlanishi tufayli bahslar keltirib chiqargan, bu esa sudlarga murojaat qilish va norozilik namoyishlariga sabab boʻladi. „Vice City“ 17.5 million nusxadan ortiq sotilgan va 2002-yilning eng koʻp sotilgan video oʻyiniga aylangan. U oltinchi avlod video oʻyinlarining eng muhim namunalaridan biri va barcha davrlarning eng buyuk video oʻyinlaridan biri sifatida tan olinadi. Koʻplab oʻyin nashrlari uni „Yil oʻyini“ mukofotiga loyiq koʻrishgan.

Chiqarilganidan soʻng, oʻyin koʻplab oʻyin platformalariga moslashtirilgan. 2012-yilda oʻyinning oʻn yilligi munosabati bilan mobil platformalar uchun yaxshilangan versiyasi chiqarilgan. 2021-yilda esa yanada takomillashgan versiyasi (Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition) taqdim etiladi. Uning davomchisi „Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas“ 2004-yil oktyabrida chiqarilgan, davomi sifatidagi prikveli „Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories“ esa 2006-yil oktyabrida chiqarilgan.

Oʻyinning borishi
"Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" – bu uchinchi shaxs nuqtai nazaridan oʻynaladigan jangari-sarguzasht oʻyini. Oʻyinchi bosh qahramon jinoyatchi Tommy Vercettini boshqaradi va syujetni rivojlantirish uchun missiyalarni – aniq maqsadlari boʻlgan chiziqli senariylarni bajaradi. Oʻyinda bir vaqtning oʻzida bir nechta missiyalar mavjud boʻlishi mumkin, chunki baʼzi missiyalar oʻyinchidan keyingi koʻrsatmalar yoki voqealarni kutishni talab qiladi. Missiyalardan tashqari, oʻyinchi oʻyinning ochiq dunyosini erkin kezishi va ixtiyoriy qoʻshimcha topshiriqlarni bajarishi mumkin.. Oʻyin dunyosi ikki asosiy orol va bir nechta kichik hududlardan iborat boʻlib, maydoni jihatidan seriyaning avvalgi qismlariga qaraganda ancha kattaroq. Orollar syujet rivojlanishi davomida oʻyinchi uchun ochiladi.

Oʻyinchi oʻyin dunyosida yugurishi, sakrashi yoki transport vositalarini boshqarishi mumkin. Dushmanlarga qarshi kurashish uchun yaqin masofadagi hujumlar, oʻqotar qurollar va portlovchi moddalardan foydalanadi. Oʻqotar qurollarga Colt Python revolveri, M60 pulemyoti va Minigun kabi qurollar kiradi. Oʻyinning uch oʻlchovli muhiti snayper va raketali quroldan nishonga olishda birinchi shaxs koʻrinishidan foydalanish imkonini beradi. Bundan tashqari, oʻyindagi jang tizimi oʻyinchiga transport vositasida harakatlanayotganda yon tomonga qarab otish imkoniyatini beradi.
Oʻyin keng koʻlamli qurol tanlovini taqdim etilgan – ularni mahalliy qurol-yarogʻ sotuvchilaridan sotib olish, yerdan topish, halok boʻlgan dushmanlardan olish yoki shahar boʻylab topish mumkin.

Jang paytida dushmanlarga qarshi avtomatik mo'ljal olish (inglizcha: auto-aim) yordamchi vosita sifatida ishlatilishi mumkin. Agar oʻyinchi zarar koʻrsa, uning sogʻligʻi sogʻliqni tiklash vositalari yordamida toʻliq tiklanishi mumkin. Oʻq va portlash zarbalarini yutish uchun zirhdan foydalanish mumkin, lekin bu jarayonda zirh taʼsiri tugashi mumkin. Sogʻliq toʻliq tugaganda, oʻyin toʻxtaydi va oʻyinchi eng yaqin kasalxonada qayta paydo boʻladi, bunda barcha qurollari va zirhini, shuningdek, pulining bir qismini yoʻqotadi. Agar oʻyinchi oʻyin davomida jinoyatlar sodir etsa, oʻyinning huquqni muhofaza qilish organlari ekranning yuqori qismidagi „qidiruvdagi“ koʻrsatkich orqali koʻrsatilganidek javob berishi mumkin. Bu koʻrsatkich oʻyinchi koʻproq jinoyat sodir etgan sari oshib boradi. Koʻrsatkichdagi yulduzchalar joriy qidiruv darajasini koʻrsatadi va daraja qanchalik yuqori boʻlsa, huquqni muhofaza qilish organlari tomonidan koʻrsatiladigan javob shunchalik kuchli boʻladi (masalan, eng yuqori oltinchi daraja boʻlgan holda, politsiya vertolyotlari va harbiylar oʻyinchilarni yoʻq qilish uchun toʻplanadi).

Syujet davomida Tommy turli toʻdalardan boʻlgan personajlar bilan uchrashadi. Oʻyinchi ular uchun topshiriqlarni bajarganida, oʻsha toʻda aʼzolari koʻpincha oʻyinchini himoya qiladi, raqib toʻda aʼzolari esa oʻyinchini tanib, darhol otishni boshlaydi. Oʻyin dunyosini erkin kezish paytida, oʻyinchi qonun himoyachisi mini-oʻyini, oʻt oʻchirish faoliyati, tez yordam xizmati va taksi xizmati kabi faoliyatlar bilan shugʻullanishi mumkin. Bu faoliyatlarni yakunlash oʻyinchiga kontekstga xos mukofotlar beradi. Tommi oʻzining jinoiy imperiyasini qurganida, oʻyinchi shahar boʻylab joylashgan bir qator koʻchmas mulklarni sotib olishi mumkin. Ularning baʼzilari qoʻshimcha yashirinish joylari vazifasini bajaradi, u yerda qurollarni yigʻish va transport vositalarini saqlash mumkin. Shuningdek, pornografik film studiyasi, taksi kompaniyasi va bir nechta koʻngilochar klublar kabi turli bizneslarni ham sotib olish mumkin. Har bir tijorat koʻchmas mulkiga bir qator topshiriqlar biriktirilgan, masalan, raqobatchilarni yoʻq qilish yoki jihozlarni oʻgʻirlash; barcha topshiriqlar bajarilgandan soʻng, koʻchmas mulk oʻyinchi uchun doimiy daromad keltira boshlaydi.

Syujeti
1986-yilda, mafiya aʼzosi Tommy Vercetti (Ray Liotta ovoz bergan) qotillik uchun oʻn besh yillik qamoq jazosini oʻtab, ozodlikka chiqadi. Uning bossi Sonny Forelli (Tom Sizemore ovoz bergan), janubda narkotik biznesini yoʻlga qoʻymoqchi boʻlib, Tommyni muhim narkotik kelishuvi ustidan nazorat qilish uchun Vice Cityga yuboradi. Biroq kelishuv nomaʼlum hujumchilar tomonidan buziladi va Tommy hamda uning hamkori, poraxoʻr advokat Ken Rosenberg (William Fichtner) zoʻrgʻa qochib qutuladi. Bu xabarni eshitib gʻazablangan Sonny, Tommiga narkotiklarni va unga bergan pullarini qaytarib olishni, aks holda oqibatlari ogʻir boʻlishini aytadi. Ken kelishuv paytida kimlar hujum qilganini izlash maqsadida maʼlumotlar olish uchun Tommyni isteʼfodagi armiya polkovnigi Juan Garcia Cortez (Robert Davi) bilan tanishtiradi. Cortez hujum uchun hamdardlik bildirib, uni kim uyushtirganini aniqlashga vaʼda beradi. Tergov davomida Tommy shahar jinoiy dunyosi bilan aloqalari bor musiqa direktori Kent Paul (Denni Dayer), kelishuvda ishtirok etgan va hujumda akasidan ayrilgan Lance Vance (Philip Michael Thomas), yordami evaziga Tommydan bir nechta kelishuvlarda yordam soʻraydigan texaslik biznes magnati Avery Carrington (Burt Reynolds) va keyinchalik Tommy hamda Lanceni ishga oladigan narkobaron Ricardo Diaz (Luis Guzmán) kabi bir nechta yordam taklif qiluvchi shaxslar bilan uchrashadi. Vaqt oʻtishi bilan Kortez hujumni Diaz uyushtirganidan shubhalanayotganini bildiradi. Qoʻshimcha tergov natijasida Lance bu haqiqat ekanligini aniqlaydi va Tommyning maslahatiga quloq solmay, Diazni oʻldirmoqchi boʻladi, lekin oʻzi asirga tushadi. Tommy Lanceni qutqargach, ular Diaz qasos olishga urinishidan oldin uni oʻldiradilar.

Diaz oʻlganidan soʻng, Tommy uning mulklarini qoʻlga kiritadi va Averyning maslahati bilan oʻzining yangi jinoiy imperiyasini kengaytirishga kirishadi. U bizneslarni himoya puli toʻlashga majbur qiladi va bankrot boʻlishga yaqin kompaniyalarni sotib olib, ularni noqonuniy operatsiyalar uchun niqob sifatida ishlatadi. Tommy oʻz bizneslarini raqiblardan himoya qilish uchun shaxsiy toʻda tuzadi va bir nechta nufuzli toʻda yetakchilariga yordam beradi, ular oʻz navbatida uning kengayishini qoʻllab-quvvatlashiga umid qiladi. U Kortezga oʻgʻirlangan harbiy jihozlar bilan shahardan qochishga yordam beradi.
Vaqt oʻtib, Sonny Tommyning Vice Citydagi narkotik savdosini toʻliq nazoratga olganini va Forellilarni bu ishga aralashtirmaganini bilib qoladi. Uning mustaqilligidan gʻazablangan Sonny, Tommyning bizneslaridan zoʻrlik bilan pul yigʻish uchun oʻz odamlarini yuboradi. Javob tariqasida, Tommy Sonnining odamlarini oʻldiradi va u bilan aloqalarni uzadi.

Keyinroq, Sonnyning shaxsan Vice Cityga kelib, oʻziga tegishli deb bilgan pullarni yigʻmoqchi ekanligini aytganda, Tommy unga soxta pullar bilan toʻlov qilishga urinadi. Biroq, Sonny oʻn besh yil oldin Tommyning qamalishiga oʻzi sababchi boʻlganini ochib tashlaydi. Shuningdek, Tommining hokimiyatga koʻtarilishi paytidan beri oʻzini yetarli darajada qadrlmaganini his qilgan Lance Tommyga xiyonat qilib, Forellilar bilan ittifoq tuzganini maʼlum qiladi. Tommining saroyida otishma boshlanadi. Tommi Forellilarning pullarini oʻgʻirlashiga yoʻl qoʻymaydi va xiyonati uchun Lanceni oʻldiradi, soʻngra Sonnyni ham oʻldiradi. Ken qirgʻin sahnasiga yetib kelganda, Tommy unga hamma narsa endi joyida ekanligini, chunki u oʻzini Vice Cityning soʻzsiz jinoiy qiroli ekanligini aytadi.

Rockstar North kompaniyasining 50 kishilik asosiy jamoasi „Grand Theft Auto: Vice City“ oʻyinini 18 oy davomida ishlab chiqishgan. Toʻliq ishlab chiqish 2001-yil oxirida, „Grand Theft Auto III“ yakunlanayotgan paytda boshlanadi. Dastlabki ishlab chiqish faqat 3D modellarni yaratishni oʻz ichiga olgan boʻlsa-da, ijrochi producer Sam Houser jarayon 2002-yil boshida chinakamiga boshlangani va taxminan toʻqqiz oy davom etganini aytdi.
„Grand Theft Auto III“ning Windows versiyasi chiqarilgandan soʻng, ishlab chiqish jamoasi oʻyinga yangi missiyalar, qurollar va transport vositalari qoʻshadigan missiya toʻplami yaratishni muhokama qiladi. Keyingi muhokamalar natijasida jamoa bu gʻoyani mustaqil oʻyin sifatida ishlab chiqishga qaror qiladi va bu „Vice City“ nomi ostida chiqariladi.

Oʻyin 2002-yil 22-mayda Electronic Entertainment Expo davomida eʼlon qilingan. Oʻyin 2019-yil sentyabrida Rockstar Games Launcherga qoʻshiladi.

Voqealar joyi
Oʻyin 1986-yilda, Mayami shahri asosida yaratilgan xayoliy Vice City shahrida sodir boʻladi. Vice City ilk bor original „Grand Theft Auto“ (1997) oʻyinida paydo boʻlgan. Ishlab chiqish jamoasi bu shaharni qayta ishlatishga va studiya ishchilari hamda muxlislar taklif qilgan gʻoyalarni kiritishga qaror qiladi. Ular „Grand Theft Auto III“ dagi Liberty Citydan farqli oʻlaroq, zamonaviy boʻlmagan joyni satira orqali tasvirlashga harakat qilishadi. Jamoa Liberty Cityning ilhom manbasi boʻlgan Nyu-York shahri bilan turli oʻxshashliklar va farqlarga ega boʻlgan hoshqa joyni tanlashni xohlaydi va oxir-oqibat Mayamini variantiga toʻxtalishadi. Prodyuser Leslie Benzies shaharni „haqiqiy bayramlar shahri, bu yer quyosh, dengiz va jinsiy aloqaga toʻla, biroq hammasining ostida shaharning qora qirrasi yashirinib yotadi“ deb taʼriflaydi. Sam Houser esa shaharga „jinoyatning eng ajoyib davri, negaki bu joyda har qanday jinoyat jinoyatdek tuyulmaydi… Bu butunlay agʻdar-toʻntar davr edi“ deb taʼrif beradi. Jamoa Vice Cityni „tirik, nafas olayotgan shahar“ kabi tasvirlashni, oʻyinchi personaj binoning ichida boʻlganda ham shaharda „hayot davom etayotganini“ his qilishini xohlardi.

Oʻyinning koʻrinishi, ayniqsa kiyim-kechak va transport vositalari 1980-yillar muhitini aks ettiradi. Oʻyindagi koʻplab mavzular Scarface va Carlitoʻs Way kabi mashhur filmlardan olingan va ikkinchi film oʻzining xarakterizatsiyasi va nozik jinoyatchilarni tasvirlash usuli ishlab chiqaruvchilar jamoasiga katta taʼsir oʻtkazgan. Oʻyin ishlab chiqilishiga Miami Vice teleseriali ham katta taʼsir koʻrsatgan va ishlab chiqish davomida jamoa tomonidan muntazam ravishda tomosha qilingan. Oʻyin bosh rassomi Aaron Garbut neon chiroqlarni yaratish davaomida bu serialdan maʼlumot manbasi sifatida foydalangan. 1980-yillar muhiti oʻziga xos madaniyatga ega ekanligi va jamoa aʼzolari bu davrni yaxshi bilishi sababli ushbu muhitni qayta yaratish jamoa uchun qiyinchilik tugʻdirmaydi. Rassomlar jamoasiga katta hajmdagi tadqiqotlar bilan bir qatorda ishlab chiqish jamoasining boshqa aʼzolari tomonidan olingan fotografiyalar taqdim etilgan. Jamoa „Grand Theft Auto III“ ishlab chiqili yakunlangandan soʻng Mayamiga tadqiqot safarlari uyushtiradi. Ular kichik guruhlarga boʻlinib, koʻchalarni kuzatatib, maʼlumotlar toʻplashadi.

Hikoya va personajlar
Ishlab chiqarish jamoasi Grand Theft Auto IIIning soqov qahramoni Claudedan tubdan farq qiluvchi personaj yaratish ustida bosh qotirgan. Avvalgi oʻyinlardagidan farqli oʻlaroq Grand Theft Auto: Vice City bosh qahramoni Tommi Vercetti gapira olardi. Uni aktyor Ray Liotta gavdalantirgan. Avvaldan mavjud boʻlmagan personajni yaratish Liottaga qiyinchilik tugʻdirgan va u bu jarayonni murakkab deb atagan. Rolni yozib olish jarayonida jamoa Liottaga personaj qanday harakatlanishini tasavvur qilish imkonini berish uchun koʻk ekrandan foydalangan. Jamoa aktyorning Tommyni toʻliq oʻzida his qilishi uchun barcha sharoitni yaratib berishadi va bu oʻz navbatida syujet rivojiga katta yordam beradi. Dan Houser Tommyni „kuchli va bir vaqtning oʻzida xavfli, imkoniyat va kerakli vaqt kelishini kutishga tayyor“ deb taʼriflaydi. Rejissyor Navid Khonsari Liotta bilan ishlash baʼzida qiyin boʻlganini taʼkidlaydi. „Baʼzi sessiyalarda u… ishga berilib ketardi, lekin baʼzida… juda tushkun boʻlib, ishlay olmasdi“ deb aytadi Sam Houser.

Oʻyindagi animatsiyalarning aksariyati original boʻlib, faqat bir nechtasi „Grand Theft Auto III“dan olingan. Personajlar uchun jamoa Harakat qaydi va Stop-moushn animatsiya texnikalaridan foydalanilgan. Keskin sahnalar uchun birinchisi, oʻyin harakatlarida esa har ikkala texnikaning kombinatsiyasi ishlatilgan. Modellarning xilma-xilligi sababli jamoa motosikl animatsiyalarini yaratishda qiyinchiliklarga duch kelgan. Piyoda personaj modellari „Vice City“da skinlardan foydalanadi. Bu esa rassomlarga yanada realistik personajlar yaratish imkonini bergan. Oʻyin dunyosida 110 ta noyob piyoda modeli va taxminan 50 ta syujet personaji mavjud. Har bir personaj „Grand Theft Auto III“dagi personajlarga nisbatan ikki barobar koʻp poligon va teksturalar yordamida koʻrsatiladi. Bu ishlar personaj fizikasiga ham ijobiy taʼsir qilgan. Shu jumladan oʻyindagi personajning quroldan otish aniqligi kabi oʻyin jihatlari avvalgi oʻyinlarga nisbatan yaxshilangan. Oʻyindagi baʼzi personaj modellari va sssenariylar „Cho'qintirgan ota“ (inglizcha: The Godfather) kabi oʻsha davrga oid filmlardan, oʻyinning taqdimoti esa 1980-yillarning jangari televizion shoularidan ilhomlanilgan. Tommy Vercetti va Lance Vance oʻrtasidagi oʻzaro munosabat Miami Vice serialidagi Sonny Crockett va Ricardo Tubbs oʻrtasidagi munosabatlarga oʻxshash qilib yaratilgan.

Ovoz dizayni va musiqa
"Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" oʻyini 8000 qator dialogga ega boʻlib, bu „Grand Theft Auto III“ oʻyinidagidan toʻrt barobar koʻproqdir. Oʻyin 90 daqiqadan ortiq oʻyin ichidagi sahnalar va toʻqqiz soatlik musiqani oʻz ichiga oladi. Unda 113 dan ortiq qoʻshiq va reklama lavhalari mavjud. Ishlab chiquvchilar jamoasi oʻyin soundtrekini yaratishda „Grand Theft Auto III“ musiqasi bilan taqqoslaganda, yangi yondashuv qoʻllashga intiladilar. Sam Hauser „Grand Theft Auto III“ musiqasini „satirik va oʻziga xos“ deb taʼriflagan edi. Radio stansiyalarini ishlab chiqishda, jamoa oʻyinning 1980-yillar muhitini yanada koʻproq yoritish uchun turli xil qoʻshiqlarni toʻplashga qaror qiladi va buning uchun ular keng qamrovli tadqiqot oʻtkazdilar. Oʻyindagi radiostansiyalar Epic Records tomonidan yetti albomda nashr etildi. Bu albomlar "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Official Soundtrack Box Set" nomi ostida birlashtirildi va 2002-yil oktyabrida oʻyin bilan bir vaqtda chiqarilgan. „Vice City“ oʻyinida „Grand Theft Auto III“ ga nisbatan uch barobar koʻproq radiosuhbat stansiyalari mavjud. Ishlab chiqaruvchi va tok-shou boshlovchisi Lazlow Jones taʼkidlaganidek, radioga qoʻngʻiroq qiluvchi tinglovchilarning kichik foizi „aqldan ozgan“ boʻlib, „Vice City“da jamoa bu jihatni yanada kuchaytirdi va boʻrttirib koʻrsatiladi. Dan Houser fikriga koʻra, radiosuhbat stansiyalari oʻyin dunyosidagi tabiiylikni taʼminlaydi. Oʻyin ovoz dizayni va musiqa ishlab chiqarish sohasida oʻsha davr uchun innovatsion yondashuv namoyish etgan. Keng qamrovli musiqiy tanlovi, yozilgan dialoglar va radio stansiyalari orqali „Vice City“ oʻyinchilarga 1980-yillar Mayami shahrining atmosferasini toʻliq his qilish imkonini bergan.

Oldingi oʻyinlari kabi, "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" ham bir qancha nizolarni keltirib chiqargan. 2003-yil noyabrda Gaiti Markazlari Kengashi va Gaiti Amerikaliklar uchun Inson Huquqlari Nyu-Yorkda oʻyinni ommaviy tanqid qilib, namoyish oʻtkazdilar. Buning oqibatida Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive, Sony Computer Entertainment, GameStop va [Wal-Mart]] kompaniyalariga qarshi 600 million dollarlik daʼvo qoʻzgʻatiladi. Daʼvoda 14 yoshli Cody Posey Nyu-Meksiko shtatining Xondo shahrida otasi, oʻgay onasi va oʻgay singlisini oʻldirishdan oldin oʻyinni haddan tashqari koʻp oʻynaganini taʼkidlaydi. Poseyning himoya jamoasi uning otasi tomonidan zoʻravonlikka uchragani va qotillik paytida Zoloft dori vositasini qabul qilganini taʼkidlaydi. Daʼvoda agar Posey "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City"ni haddan tashqari koʻp oʻynamaganida qotilliklar sodir etilmagan boʻlardi deyilgan. Nyu-Meksikoda Sony yoki Take-Two ustidan yurisdiksiya yoʻqligi sababli 2007-yil dekabrda bu ish yopiladi.

2017-yil iyulda Psychic Readers Network (PRN) Auntie Poulet nomli personaj tufayli Rockstarga qarshi daʼvo qoʻzgʻatgan. Ular personaj va unga ovoz bergan Youree Harris oʻrtasida oʻxshashliklar borligini davo qilishgan. Odin Law and Medianing advokati Brandon J. Huffman PRN daʼvosining oʻz vaqtida qoʻzgʻatilmagani tufayli muammolarga duch kelishini taʼkidladi. Chunki Oʻn birinchi okrugning mualliflik huquqini buzganlik uchun daʼvo muddati uch yilni tashkil etadi. Ushbu daʼvo esa oʻyin chiqarilganidan deyarli 15 yil oʻtgach qoʻzgʻatilgan. Huffman Take-Two parodiya ekanini daʼvo qilishi yoki suddan tashqari kelishuv tuzishi mumkinligini, ammo dastlab bunday qilmasligi ehtimolini qoʻshimcha qiladi.

USA Today nashri muhbiri Mike Snider "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" „video oʻyinlar uchun yangi standartlarni oʻrnatdi“ deb yozgan. U bunga sabab sifatida oʻyinning interaktivligi, jangari ekanligi va saundtrekini koʻrsatadi.
Kotaku nashridan Lyuk Plankett va PC Magazine nashridan Jeffrey L. Willson esa „Vice City“ni seriyaning eng yaxshi oʻyini deb nomlashadi.
